Excited to play your new guitar! We're excited too, but there are a few things we should know before jumping right in. Evan is going to help get your guitar ready to play! In this lesson, you'll learn the parts of the guitar, what the guitar strings are, how to tune your guitar, and how to figure out the notes on the guitar. So you got an electric guitar and you're ready to rock! Well... maybe not quite ready. You need to learn how to set up your electric guitar and amp. What do the nobs do on the electric guitar? What are all the knobs on the amp? Evan is going to teach you about all the knobs, what they are, and how they affect the sound the electric guitar produces.

In order to avoid discomfort or pain, and to get the best playing ability, it's important to hold your guitar a certain way for playing. Let's take a look at how to hold your guitar in the playing position.

Today, Evan is going to be teaching us what the guitar strings are (note and numbered), and what the notes are using the frets. We're covering a lot in this lesson and it's a lot of music theory stuff, so if you feel a little overwhelmed, it's okay, we'll be learning more and things will make a little more sense as we go along. We're covering open strings and the notes they are. The main notes and where they land on the fretboard, and learning sharps and flats and where they are using the frets as well.

Today, Evan is going to be teaching us how to play the most popular chords used in many songs. This is the intro to guitar chords. There's a rumor going around that many popular songs use a lot of the same chords on the guitar. Well... for the most part, those rumors are true! Very popular chords used the CAGED system. Those are the guitar chords that are most commonly used! Today, we are going to show how to play each one of these chords. These may take a little time to practice and get a clean sound, but once you got them, you'll be able to play a lot more songs than you realize!

Playing guitar is a little different than other instruments, especially when it comes to reading the music. Tabs vs sheet music. Guitar players generally read tabs instead of regular sheet music. Why is that? Is reading tabs really that much better? Why do only guitar players read tabs?

In today's lesson, we will be learning three new notes which are on the 6th string (E string) on guitar. Those notes are E, F, and G and we'll have an easy exercise to get used to finger placement and reading the notes. Then we'll have a quick review on all the notes we have learned so far.

Today, we're introducing barre chords. Barre chords are when our index finger holds down all the strings and the other fingers still create the chord (similar to using a capo). This allows us to great all chords on the guitar with 1 fingering, just moving up and down the fret. We're going to take a look at the E Major chord & barre chord, E Minor chord & barre chord, A Major Chord and barre chord, and A Minor chord and barre chord.

In our previous lessons, we have gone over barre chords. Now, barre chords can be pretty difficult for some, so in this lesson, Evan goes over a few extra tips and tricks to help you get those barre chords to sound better and with less pain. BUT if you are still struggling with your barre chords, we do have a workaround where you can still hit the notes needed for the chord and without having to use 1 finger down on all the strings.
